© Anouk De Clercq 1-2

The Walhoeve foundation asked the artist Anouk De Clercq to visualize the added value of their services. The end result had to be a work of art that could be used as a catalyst leading towards open discussion of the topic of youth care and also towards the integration of this young people  in society.

Production and result

Fifty years ago François Truffaut made the film Les 400 Coups. Anouk De Clercq formulated a contemporary answer to the movie, in the context of the Walhoeve. The complete work consists of a video, a series of photograms and an accompanying workbook. The video is not literally about youth care but it shows us a scene in which a boy runs through the beautiful landscape of the Moeren towards the sea.
The artwork is the result of a collaboration between the artist, young people, the staff, ... in a democratic cooperative.
The final form and content of the workbook grew spontaneously during the creation of the artwork. The workbook is a sketchbook with notes, photos and reactions from the young people, the artist and the supervisors. It developed into a publication and in addition to the video, it is an additional means for wider circulation.

Arteconomy acted as mediator between the artist and the organisation and as process coach of the project.
